Adding video to your IP network can solve problems associated with running separate networks, but it can cause other headaches if you don't plan properly.
Before you build out your network for digital video, consider whether your users will be internal or external to your organization, or both. This will help determine the quality and type of video your network must deliver to users, as well as the extent of building and maintaining the network. Enterprise users can be more demanding of video quality, but you have more control over how video gets to them--you can shape and build your network with QoS (quality of service) and extra bandwidth. The downside is that video traffic competes with all other data traffic on your network. File transfers, e-mail and Web traffic can put up with delay or packet loss, but it's tough to view video if it starts and stops every time packets are re-sent.

A few weeks ago, we reviewed the P4Dual-915GL. Today, we take a look at another board 775Dual-915GL which is also based on the same chipset 915GL and offers 5 output ports.
As you probably already know, Intel 915GL chipset does not support external AGP nor PCI-E interface. So, how is it possible for ASrock to make a board that supports 2 external graphics interfaces AGP and PCI-E using a conventional 915GL chipset. This is what I call innovation! ASrock calls them AGI Express and AGI8X interface.
From my understanding, ASrock combined the PCI bus to form an AGP slot and use 4 PCI-E X1 to form a PCI-E x 4 PCI-E slot. One question came to my mind is that, would it be enough for bandwidth hungry graphics cards? Well, we will take a closer look later."

One of the concepts that are most difficult for new Web developers to fully grasp, is just how dangerous it is to trust user input. Just in the last week, there've been around a dozen or so different reports of vulnerabilities found in Web applications - mostly all of them revolve around unchecked user input. Because of PHP’s dominance in the Web application development world, many of the vulnerable applications were ones written in PHP, which hurt PHP’s security track record, even though it’s not the language which is at fault (the same applications, written in any other language – would have suffered from the same vulnerabilities)."

KeepResident Eclipse plugin for Windows - KeepResident Eclipse plugin: "The performance of Eclipse (and other large Java applications) has long suffered due to the Windows virtual memory manager. Windows has a tendency to preemptively swap Java processes out of physical memory, even when there is still plenty of physical memory available. This interacts very poorly with Java processes, which do not have good locality and touch a lot of memory. The problem is exacerbated when Java performs garbage collection, which causes the Java process to touch lots of memory that has been paged out to disk. Ever had Eclipse randomly hang for 15-20 seconds? This is most likely the culprit.
I wrote a simple plugin for Eclipse that uses two functions in the Windows API - SetProcessWorkingSetSize() and VirtualLock() - to encourage Windows to keep more of the Eclipse Java process in physical RAM. This plugin adds a preference page where you can adjust the minimum and maximum working set size (i.e. the amount of memory Windows is supposed to keep in physical memory when the process is in use). However, Windows will happily begin swapping out Eclipse below the working set size if the Eclipse window is minimized. By enabling the VirtualLock checkbox, the plugin will force Windows to allocate physical memory, so even when Eclipse is minimized it won't be swapped out. This is very effective in eliminating that sluggishness in Eclipse after not using it for a while."

Writing unit tests has always been the weak point in my portfolio. Each time I go to start them, I get frustrated with setting them up, then trying to get JUnit working just right. Then one day, as I was preparing the JavaPolis presentations, I noticed a presentation by Cedric Beust about a new testing framework, TestNG. As it turned out, I was also starting a new pet project and decided that since I was testing Java 5 and some other new technologies, I might as well try to catch “unit testing fever.”

Cocoon is a powerful tool for publishing content to multiple formats from XML. It can be used for static content, but its most powerful application is publishing dynamically generated XML streams.
